The book Catch-22 is both hilarious and profound. In his walk through the streets of Rome, Yossarian sees suffering and poverty and murder, and has a lengthy soliloquy:
What a lousy earth! How many winners were losers, successes failures, rich men poor men? How many wise guys were stupid? How many happy endings were unhappy endings? How many honest men were liars, brave men cowards, loyal men traitors, how many sainted men were corrupt, how many people in positions of trust had sold their souls to blackguards for petty cash, how many had never had souls? How many straight-and-narrow paths were crooked paths? How many best families were worst families and how many good people were bad people? When you added them all up and then subtracted, you might be left with only the children, and perhaps with an Albert Einstein and an old violinist or sculptor somewhere.
i gotta read this book someday.
frown. i’m on stinky narrowband now!
cos they’re changing the drains outside my house to the covered type… so lots of digging and stuff going on, in the process the cable box thing in the road had been removed…
targeted release (windows version) june 2003! it’s 14% thinner and lighter than my current one! best of all it finally supports USB, which means i can use it as a portable hdd for most PCs at last! sigh. guess i’d wait for the end of my NS term for the price to drop… then can get one and go overseas with it… who knows, a better mp3 player would have been released by then (very likely, actually)!
i went shopping today!!!
-pauses and waits for ppl who know me quite well to recover from shock-
well, yeah, i did. haha. err. well, it’d originally began as a quick trip to get some bare essentials (if you really needed to know, men’s briefs. larger ones. expanded ballroom. you didn’t really need to know, did you? oh well), but i happened to pass by giordano’s and so i decided that it’d be good to get a new pair of jeans. i like giordano’s jeans! they’re comfie. and more affordable than those branded jeans. actually the only thosebrandedjeans i know of are levi’s. but that’s beside the point.
next thing i knew, i was browsing u2 for stuff. nothing really exciting, so i just walked into bossini. saw some t-shirts i thought were ok, then i noticed a sign which said something like ‘sale – $8’. so i started snapping up stuff.
i think it’s at least partially because xianna -glare- had proven to me beyond a shadow of doubt that i’ve an extremely limited wardrobe.
anyway, well. at least i spent less than a hundred bucks! a third of my month’s NS allowance. ^!#@%!##@4 that’s real little. oh well. i’d survive, i guess.
tmr… i shall… move on to jogging!
wow. haha. think swimming has had little effect so far… at this rate, i’d need to buy new jeans soon =P
but probably the only reason i’m so motivated today is, i think i strained my arm muscle swimming, it’s been aching since thursday. so i’d go light on the arms this week.
extracted and paraphrased from the mindef intranet forums
it takes two hands to clap.
if one hand stays still, while the other one does all the work by moving to and fro, a clapping noise is still heard.
however, if this goes on for too long, the working hand will end up exhausted, and the clapping will slow down or even stop, leading to lots of frustration.
heya. i’ve got a problem. i don’t remember who knows about this blog. haha. so if you’re reading this, can you just click on the comments link and leave your name (or some pseudonym which i’d understand)? yeah. thanks. i’d appreciate it, especially if you’ve always been a silent observer… haha. yah, do this even if u’re sure i know. can? thanks.
can anyone tell me what the big deal is with reality tv? i’ve watched a few episodes of some stuff, and can hardly understand the craze over them.
especially the osbournes. someone please explain that to me! what the heck is nice about watching a bunch of ugly (yah they aren’t even good-looking!) people walking about their house, announcing expletives just about every other moment?
GAH i’ve just found out how i’d been tricked longago into thinking that ‘I just called to say I love you’ and ‘We are the world’ was the same song!
there’s this super-old chinese song called 新加坡派 (singapore pie), the lyrics went on to mention the 80s or something then it suddenly went into
i just called, to say, i love you
i just called, to say i really do…
we are the world, we are the children…
tada! i’m not dumb after all. haha. oh well.
i’m actually rather sore about how this mindef internet connection seems to be way faster than my home connection. seems like my neighbourhood’s cable-modem usage is higher than i’d thought…
anyone using ADSL (aka ‘broadband’, the non-cable type)? how’s it? but expensive for unlimited usage, right?
